John Evans has worked extensively in theatres and locations across Canada and internationally. His experience covers commercial, subsidized, and business theatre as actor, writer and producer. Recently, his appearances have included The Beat Generation: Words and Music in association with The Scott Marshall Quartet, presenting classic Beat poetry with Bebop jazz in club venues.
As an actor on stage, among others, he has played leading roles in Hamlet, The Taming of the Shrew, Long Days Journey into Night, and Sleuth. John won the Dora Mavor Moore award for best performance as an actor as ‘Lee’ in Sam Shepard’s True West.
On screen, his acting credits include the feature films Big Town with Mat Dillon, Diane Lane and Tommy Lee Jones, Jacob Two Two Meets the Hooded Fang with Gary Busey and most recently, The Museum Project with James Woods. For television, Reversible Errors with William H. Macy, Tom Selleck, King of the Olympics, Lena and Her Hundred Children with Linda Lavin, Warehouse 13, Femme Nikita, Due South, Escape Clause, F/X the Series, and The Relic Hunter.
As producer/director, he has presented over 30 recognition events for IBM Canada in Hawaii, Bermuda, Halifax, Montreal and Toronto. Other clients include Electrolux, Shell Oil, Kellogg Salada, Colgate Palmolive, and Bata Shoes in such venues as Roy Thomson Hall, Metro Toronto Convention Centre and Rogers Centre.
Commercially, his productions have included Cabaret Deco for the Royal Ontario Museum and Distillery Jazz Festival, The Decadent Berlin Revue for the Ashkenaz Festival, and Gauche, an intimate cabaret starring Lyne Tremblay at the Left Bank in Toronto which is still running in other venues.
John also presents a seminar called Stage Presence, helping executives present themselves better on stage and in media. He gives special sessions to The Ontario Young Lawyers Association, and the Conflict Consensus Institute.
John is the signature voice for Alliance Atlantis’ History Television.
